Seek the Traitor's Son

By Veronica Roth
Seek the Traitor's Son by Veronica Roth digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A new epic romantic, dystopian fantasy begins in Seek the Traitor's Son, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth

Elegy Ahn did not ask for destiny to find her.

She is happy with her life as a soldier, defending her small country from the Talusar, a powerful nation who worships a deadly Fever. A fever that blesses half of its victims with mysterious gifts.

But then she’s summoned to hear a prophecy–her, and the most ruthless of Talusar generals, Rava Vidar. Brought face to face, they learn that one of them will lead their people to victory over the other…but they don’t know which. And at the center of both of their fates: a man. A man that, Elegy is told, she will fall in love with.

In just one day, Elegy’s old life–her job, her purpose, and her future–is over. She and Rava are destined to collide, with the fate of their nations hanging in the balance. And when they do, only one will be left standing.

Elegy intends to make sure it’s her.

“Thank you to Macmillan Audio for the advanced listener copy of this new genre blending novel by Veronica Roth. This is a blend of science fiction, fantasy and romance, with some dystopian vibes thrown in as well. This is definitely something fresh that alot of people are going to love. Roth really hits the ground running with the first 30% of this book. You become very quickly invested in the characters and political maneuvering. Then it starts to transition into a romantasy structure. The pace slows down and the romance takes a central role in the plot progression. I think if you are a romantasy fan you will absolutely eat this romance up, but I just wasn't into it (I won't list reason because I feel they could be spoilers). Unfortunately, the plot doesn't work without the romance due to the prophecy plot point. The world, the politics, the virus, and the found family were all great. I really enjoyed all aspects of this book except the romance. This could 100% be a "it's not you it's me" thing, because I can see alot of people absolutely loving how down bad the MMC is in this book. This kind of gave Empire of Silence vibes, in that the found family is fantastic and we have brought the crew together to go on an epic adventure in book two. Hella also gave me Hadrian vibes (probably bc she fell in love with every woman she saw, iykyk 😂). The audio was done well. There are four narrators and each did a fantastic job. Each does read entire chapters, which causes multiple voices for the same character depending on who is voicing the chapter. This didn't bother me or confuse me, but I can see others being annoyed with three separate voices for the main characters. I will definitely continue the series. 3.5⭐️ 🌶”
“Diverse, complex storyline with amazing narrators to bring the story to life. The 4 POVs with the be narrators to accompany them. The dystopian/scifi/fantasy vibes of the story are super interesting. The world's at war plus the "alien" reaching out to try and help their world. The division of the new earth is explained. I feel like I missed something using the audiobook and have questions about the world itself. The plague of the world is unique and is a major plot of the story. I feel like I personally would have not liked this story without the audiobook with it being written in third person present tense. My jump back to Veronica Roth after Divergent was worth it and I'll be looking out for book 2! Thank you netgalley and Macmillan audio for the opportunity to listen to this book!”
