She didn’t just walk, she paved the road. And I am so thankful for it.
You can absolutely feel how authors like Julia Quinn exist because writers like Amanda Quick were already doing the work. Of course there’s miscommunication, passion, longing, and a marriage of convenience (as there should be), but what really surprised me was the depth beneath it all.
There’s sharp commentary on women’s rights…or the lack thereof. The two elderly women “historians would call them close friends” 👀. The constant threat of scandal and assault. The quiet, sad realities of mental illness and how women were treated when they didn’t fit the mold.
Romantic? Yes. But also fascinating in how it reflects the constraints and dangers women navigated.

“Typical Amanda Quick heroine and hero who bicker and battle their way into their HEA with witty banter!
A scorned Earl in search for a new wife who will give him an heir meets his match in a fiesty country woman who is determined to fulfill her own wishes for a happy marriage.
I definitely disliked/felt really bad for the hero for the majority of this book. I shouldn't have been suprised when Amanda Quick made me love him by the end of the story.
Content warnings: kidnapping, attempted SA, suicide, loss of loved one, grief, toxic late spouse
