“The premise of this book is very intriguing. I enjoyed Holiday’s character and the ultimate result was different than I expected, which I liked. I think the biggest issue for me was some aspects I didn’t anticipate feeling triggering that ultimately left a bad taste in my mouth. I have some religious trauma and it apparently decided to reignite itself at certain points of this story.
The ending sets itself up for another book, so I am glad I knew it was a series before I started reading! This book was part of an LGBTQ book club and it was an interesting book to read through that lens.”

Sister Holiday might be one of my new favourite amateur sleuths.
A tattooed, queer Catholic nun investigating a deadly fire at the school where she teaches? I was hooked from the start.
The mystery moves at a great pace, but the real highlight is Sister Holiday herself. She’s prickly, compassionate, funny and completely unlike anyone else I’ve read in crime fiction. I also loved the progressive convent and the relationships between the sisters.
I listened to the audiobook, and Mara Wilson’s narration was fantastic.
If you’re looking for a fresh mystery series with a genuinely original main character, I’d definitely recommend this one.”
