“3.5 stars overall, (4 stars for the beginning half the book which was pretty freaking awesome) The book started much like book two in this series with Sebastian betting his three friends that they couldn’t go undercover survive without their wealth for two weeks. The friends all accepted the challenge with this particular tale focusing on Alejandro Salazar and him posing as a groom in Kentucky working for a family he considered betrayed his own. I was pretty amazed and impressed with the beginning of this book because it had a very different feel from anything that I have read in romance before. I just loved the flow and just how I jumped into the action as brought together the characters of Alejandro and Cecily for the first time. Sparks flew for sure, but it was more than that at their first meeting and had very much a feeling of the two of them having this immediate connection that went beyond lust. Usually when I read stories like that with love at first sight or connection at first sight, I don’t find it believable and kind force fed that information telling me they had this incredible chemistry right away. In the case of Alejandro and Cecily, I actually believed it. I could feel it. I knew they had something special with each other as soon as their eyes met. It felt very real, and what came across the most for me was not physical chemistry but their emotional chemistry, and that was just amazing and off the charts good. It had a real impact on me right away. And that continued on through the first half of the book as their relationship developed over time. They became friends. He helped her and guided while dealing with her horse while getting to know each other at the same time. I could tell that they both cared about one another and more than just some bedroom activities. They became closer to one another, feeling that connection with one another, and though the physical attraction was there, it wasn’t overwhelming where it took over the entire story and that was the only focus there. And really enjoyed seeing that emotional intimacy develop first, instead of the physical. Again it felt very natural between this two and very believable as well as up the anticipation level between both of them wanting the ultimate intimacy with each other. When they final got to that moment, it was a great moment between them because they had already established this connection and relationship before they even hopped into bed, which just added layers to the moment between them. It was such a sexy and sensual scene. The sensual massage scene was beyond steamy. I had to fan myself a couple time because it was so good because it was so brilliantly written that it really produced a total evocative experience involving all of my senses. It also just created great anticipation between them until finally came together in that sexy way. It was a very stimulating experience to say the least. It was hard not to drool over it a bit. It showed their passion and their level of connection and passion for each other. It just a really well done moment between them. Then after that, it kind of petered out a bit for me. A big reason for that was less focus was on the couple and more focus on outside forces mainly this complicated family feud and everything else that got in the way of them as a couple. It was meant be a complication as well as the fact that she learned that he was undercover that entire time he was with her and made her feel that she was duped by him, and throw in a unplanned pregnancy and it was one big mess between them. I understand it was meant be that way to move the plot forward and deepen their relationship, but in my view that just really lessened what they had in the beginning of the book and that connection that they had with one another, and I felt like they never really got it back once he left Kentucky to get back to his real life. And that was really disappointing because I really liked what they had as well as the progression of their relationship. And the beginning it felt more natural and true than it did when they were reunited again. I get they were dealing with stuff, but they just didn’t give me the feels like they did in the beginning. Also I know that these moment of contention between them was meant to provide the angst and friction between them, but it just wasn’t hitting the mark for me with some of it feeling very forced. It wasn’t providing the angst that I think it was meant to provide. It just kind fell flat and a little boring to be honest, though I did want them to get together in the end. I just wish more of their flair of the beginning was there and not as forced. Even the rest of the love scenes felt a little bit flat to me than the first one. Those scenes made feel they were more about their physical chemistry than their emotional chemistry. There was a want and need between them, but something on emotional level for me just wasn’t there. It felt they didn’t have that connection aside from their lust, which was a shame because their first time scene was freaking brilliant and I expect that to carry over and just be extraordinarily amazing and show off the intensity between them as well as the fact that they were getting deeper and deeper with each other. In a way they may have been, but I felt the lust took over more than anything else, and I wanted more of a balance between the two. Even though there were some great emotional concepts presented in this book, they didn’t feels as big as they could have been. I think there was a little potential wasted there. Or more accurately didn’t give me the feels that I expected with all this content presented to me. I think they could have gone little deeper and dug beneath the surface a bit more to create this intensity between them, or something to spark their relationship to the next level to put their romance over the top. For me it felt a little forced or something was off that I just can’t put my finger on. There just needed to be more of something. I loved Alejandro as a character, and really couldn’t find fault with him. He was alpha better believe it, but he had more of a sweeter than other alpha males that I have read in the past. Even though he vowed revenge on Cecily’s family, he never included her in that vendetta and believed she was blameless so he didn’t want to hurt her. He cared about her and try as he could he tried not to get involved with her and even enacted some space between them because he knew he wasn’t going to stick around or the fact that he knew he was going to enact this revenge on her family. He wanted to spare her all that, but the pull between them was hard to ignore. And it really showed his character. Even if he didn’t believe he had heart, he had a big one and it was mainly associated with her. And was beautiful see that in the beginning of the book and just how much he wasn’t willing to hurt her. And he even helped in so many ways, but mainly just to heal her wounds. He was a good guy. Cecily was a good heroine, and it was nice see her progression in the book from this wounded, broken woman to the confidant and sure of herself woman due to her love for Alejandro. She had issues to work through and she did with him by his side. She just had that immediate connection to him, and he drew her to him, and it was nice to see her seduce him. Usually it’s the alphas in romance so this was a nice change. But for her it was less about the physical part and more about the connection. Overall I did really enjoy this book, though I did prefer the first half to the second half and wish the first half carried through to the second half. The beginning was pretty flawless, and even though it was as intense and dripping with intense sexual tension, it was good and nicely done. Their instant connection was just written really well, and it felt totally believable as they progressed on their journey together to the ultimate intimate moment. That was part of the book that I loved and wished was more present for the rest of the book. Alejandro and Cecily as a couple became less of a focus and more about the external conflicts going around. It was hard to see that flawless and very real connection that they had in the beginning, which was very disappointing. It didn’t flow as well I thought either like it did in the beginning. It almost felt like this was two different stories with two different couples. Yes, there meant complications and friction between them so they could overcome them to get their happily after, but instead of feeling angsty it just fell flat to me and not as exciting as the beginning did. Plus I felt more focus was on the physical than the emotional between them when I wanted a balance between the two. I think I just needed a bit more in order to be satisfied with their romantic journey. There was so much potential there with storyline and the emotional issues that they had to work through, but it just felt off once they reunited again. Just something was missing for me.”
