Saevus Corax Deals With the Dead
ByPublisher Description
The first novel in a new epic fantasy trilogy from World Fantasy Award-winner K. J. Parker.
There’s no formal training for battlefield salvage. You just have to pick things up as you go along. Swords, armor, arrows – and the bodies, of course.
Over the years, Saevus Corax has picked up a lot of things. Some of them have made him decent money, others have brought nothing but trouble. But it’s a living, and somebody has to deal with the dead.
Something else that Saevus has buried is his past. Unfortunately, he didn’t quite succeed.

“I think I liked it?? I definitely enjoyed the tone and our central character/narrator’s personality. I found myself losing the plot from time to time, but didn’t seem to mind like I normally would. It had a nice conclusion despite being the first of three. I’m not in a rush to read the next installment, but it wasn’t a bad time. Medium recommend 😆”
“MC is basically seasick Jack Sparrow. We're stuck reading an in-universe text written by Saevus/Florian, which is a compilation of dreadful dialogue between people who think they're so damn smart. Also frequently lapses into long ass rambling info dumps - why he should sail this way, not that. Not much dealing with the dead.
As Saevus summed it up, "I found that the best course is to talk a lot and say as little as possible." Ok goddamn Saevus/Florian, do it to your enemies! Not your readers! I rly have to be more circumspect abt attempting wannabe witty fantasy after being burnt by The Devils.”
About K. J. Parker
K.J. Parker is a pseudonym for Tom Holt. He was born in London in 1961. At Oxford he studied bar billiards, ancient Greek agriculture and the care and feeding of small, temperamental Japanese motorcycle engines; interests which led him, perhaps inevitably, to qualify as a solicitor and emigrate to Somerset, where he specialized in death and taxes for seven years before going straight in 1995. He lives in Chard, Somerset, with his wife and daughter.
