“Ryan and Avory are both 16 and get to know each other at a queer youth event. The book shows their first 10 dates - but not in a chronological order. I wasn’t a big fan of the jumping aroung in time at first. But after a while I realized what an interesting view it allowed and how I understood specific ways of thinking of different people more because of the specific order of dates. I found it so interesting to see their different surroundings and relationship to other people - also with their parents. I espescially liked the description of Ryan‘s best friend and aunt, how they support him. ~~~ This was defenitely not a cozy read. It went very deep in showing how queer teenagers aren’t living their easiest life, which obstacles they can face. Ryan doesn’t have parents he can … well … talk to. 🥺 Avory‘s parents are supportive about him being trans and also about having a boyfriend in general - but even that doesn’t make life as „easy“ as for hetero cis teenagers. This book shows the struggles and joys of queer youth in a balanced way. This is defenitely NOT one of those books that only lives off of homophobia / doesn’t show clearly what‘s not ok. ☺️ It‘s real.”

“"Queerness is stolen moments and stolen victories. It is stolen time and stolen glances. It is the thrill of the theft, for sure, but also the knowledge deep in your heart that none of this stealing is wrong. It is, in fact, the most honest thing you can do.””
