Rum Punch

Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

“Powerful…clever…astonishing…a delicious read.”
Detroit Free Press

Rum Punch is classic Elmore Leonard—the electrifying thriller that served as the basis for the acclaimed film Jackie Brown by director Quentin Tarantino, starring Pam Grier, Robert DeNiro, and Samuel L. Jackson. Leonard’s story of a not-altogether-blameless flight attendant on the run from her vicious gun-running sometime employer who sees her as a troublesome loose end, Rum Punch is “the King Daddy of crime writers” (Seattle Times) at his sharpest and most ingeniously entertaining. In fact, People magazine calls it, “Leonard’s best work. He brilliantly reaffirms his right to the title of America’s finest crime fiction writer.” Enjoy this sensational noir winner from the creator of the character of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, lately of TV’s hit series Justified, and see why the great Elmore Leonard stands tall in the company of America’s most legendary crime fiction masters: John D. MacDonald, Dashiell Hammett, James M. Cain, et al.

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“Elmore Leonard, a true star of Noir. I'm not sure where this came up .25🌟 short of my usual 5 for his boos but something was missing. Probably that I preferred the black Jackie of the movie to white bombshell Jackie of the book. Anyway still a great story and everyone needs to read at least one Elmore Leonard novel in their lifetime”
“I would imagine this is a good place to start with Leonard. Great characters, fun plot, lots of double crossing, cool location. I’ll definitely have to dive more into his work. I really enjoyed this.”
“Great follow up to The Switch with Ordell and Louis 14 years older, but maybe only slightly wiser. As I have mentioned before, Leonard loves to write about crooks that are not necessarily good at what they do. They end up in prison a lot. The few books I have read, someone is always just getting out of prison. This time it is Louis and he's hooking back up with his friend Ordell who has been running a scheme out of Jamaica with the help of a flight attendant, Jackie Burke. Ordell might be slightly better at not getting caught than some of the other people he works with or work for him, but not by much. There was one scene where a group of guys are trying to figure out how to work some rocket launchers they just stole and pause to read the instruction manual. I was laughing and couldn't believe that scene didn't make it into Jackie Brown. Sure, it wasn't necessary to the storyline but it was funny! Anyway, this book is full of interesting characters, including Jackie Burke and Max Cherry. The plot flies by, but my fave part was the last act where we were able to follow all the different viewpoints of people trying to pull off a heist. I love heists. They are so fun when they work and also fun when there is some double crossing going on. This has all of that. Fun time!”
