Publisher Description

She's the one woman Harrington Astley can never have.

Lady Diana Latimer might be everything Harrington Astley has ever wanted. But her older brother, the Duke of Trevissick, despises him, and would never give his approval for them to wed. The beautiful girl who makes him feel like he's more than just cannon fodder is as unattainable as a star in the sky.

Diana Latimer has had it with fops and fortune hunters.

Making her London debut seemed like a lark three years ago. But after her brother saddled her with an absurdly large dowry, Diana has found herself besieged by fortune hunters. There's only been one man she's truly liked—Harrington Astley, a handsome army lieutenant with an irreverent sense of humor. Now Harrington is back in London, but thanks to her brother's meddling, he's convinced that nothing can ever come of the attraction flaring between them.

When the Foreign Office asks Harrington to attend a house party to try to ferret information out of a Swedish prince he befriended during his last deployment, Diana sees her chance. Harrington doesn't speak a word of Swedish. But Diana does. Of course, a young, unmarried lady cannot attend a house party without a chaperone… which is why she informs Harrington that they need to marry. For King and country.

Sometimes you have to fake it 'til you make it!

Harrington promises Diana's brother that they will annul their fake marriage just as soon as their mission for the Crown is complete. But Diana never agreed to that plan, and she's not giving Harrington up without a fight. She's going to do everything within her power to seduce her husband and turn their fake marriage into a love that lasts a lifetime.

“Lady Diana Latimer is the sister of a Duke and the biggest heiress in London - but she feels trapped and besieged by fortune hunting fools. She grew up tramping across the moors of Yorkshire and misses the freedom of those days. The only man she’s been interested in during her time in London was the handsome and charming Harrington Astley. Now he’s back after fighting abroad in the army and Diana is keen to explore the connection between them…if her overprotective older brother butts out for a moment. Diana was a lot of fun - I absolutely loved how no-nonsense she was and how she didn’t suffer fools. She’s independent and resilient, and just so self-assured. She needs all of her formidable fortitude and patience to push for a marriage between her and Harrington, and to convince Harrington that she really does want him. Harrington was such a sweetheart. He may be charming with a quick, self-deprecating wit but he’s riddled with insecurities. He can’t even imagine a world in which a beautiful, self-possessed woman like Diana would be prepared to marry him. He’s convinced that he’s not good enough for her and that she must want to marry him for adventure and freedom from London. I loved Harrington and Diana together. He listens to and relies on her (excellent) advice and truly appreciates how strong and resourceful she is. He’s absolutely gone for her and I loved how much he yearned for her, despite thinking she was so far out do his reach. Diana shows Harrington repeatedly how much she wants to be with him, and I appreciated how she pushed for open communication between them. The dynamic in the bedroom was also super steamy and I loved that Diana’s acceptance of his preferences (and enthusiastic participation) helped Harrington accept that part of himself as well. Courtney McCaskill writes with such humour, making this such fun to read. I thoroughly enjoyed this and definitely need to revisit the earlier books in the series now!”
“McCaskill delivers again with beautifully complex and amusing characters. I love Diana so much, what a great, strong leading lady”
Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“Really good and romantic. OMFG it was spicy, not for everyone but personally I really enjoyed it.”
