Roma Eterna by Robert Silverberg digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From multiple Hugo and Nebula Award–winning author Robert Silverberg, Roma Eterna takes an in-depth look at an alternative history in which the Roman Empire survives into the twenty-first century and beyond.

What would happen if Imperial Rome never fell? Roma Eterna, spanning fifteen hundred years of global history, follows the reign of the Roman Empire from its inception to the present day. Empire continues to expand, creeping across the globe and through the annals of history from the conquest of the Mayans to the first circumnavigational voyage, and finally the attempt of the Hebrews to flee Rome’s tyranny by escaping to another planet.

Originally published as a series of short stories, Roma Eterna presents a powerful new world written by an endlessly imaginative writer.

Roma Eterna Reviews

“So, I finally was able to kinda “finish” Robert Silverberg's Roma Eterna, and honestly, I've got some thoughts. The whole "what if the Roman Empire never collapsed?" idea is totally brilliant, right? Like, that's what hooked me. I was picturing this epic, alternate history vibe where you'd get to see exactly how Rome kept on chugging for centuries, maybe even getting a Roman version of the internet or something wild. Instead, it's more like Silverberg just drops you into different moments in time within this super-long-lived empire, and you're kinda expected to know what's going on. Like, "Hey, figure out the historical changes yourself!"”
ENG Combining my interest for History and my eagerness about discovering the ucrony genre, I choosed this book where the Ancient Roman Empire is also included, just to fill a prompt of one of this year's reading challenges (Retópata #11: an uncrony). It has been very interesting and very curious the alternative world born for the continuity of the Roman Empire, noticing the diferences and similarities with the real History, seeing throughout the time and by means of different characters some key moments of these changes.”
