This was such a fun surprise. Rivals’ One-Night Rule is exactly the kind of romance that reminds me why Harlequin Presents can be so satisfying. It delivers all the chemistry and escapism you’d expect while still giving both characters believable emotional baggage, meaningful careers, and a conflict that grows naturally from who they are. The romance felt “fluffy without being shallow”—light enough to be an easy binge but substantial enough that I cared about the outcome.
Jack and Sylvie had fantastic banter, believable rivals-to-lovers chemistry, and a relationship that developed through both emotional vulnerability and physical intimacy. I especially appreciated that the spice wasn’t there just to be spicy—it consistently moved their relationship forward. Jack’s philosophy that actions matter more than words made his emotional arc particularly satisfying, and the professional conflict between two competing divorce attorneys created stakes that felt earned instead of manufactured. The pacing was also excellent, making this a complete, emotionally satisfying story in a relatively short package.
The audiobook was a great way to experience this story. Morag Sims captured the tone well, and while I generally enjoy dual narration, her performance fit these characters nicely. If you’re looking for a romance with witty banter, mature characters, emotional growth, and plenty of chemistry, this is an easy recommendation.

This was an enemies-to-lovers, or as the title of the book suggests, rivals, which feels far more accurate for these two divorce lawyers who have faced off against one another in court numerous times.
Their relationship quickly escalated from attraction to denying any positive emotional attachment to the other person whatsoever lol It was very much in the same vein as Meg from Hercules when she sang "I Won't Say I'm in Love".
There were continuing themes from the last book like not being able to say you're in love and the belief that actions mean more than words, but actions still need to be backed up by words.
Personally, I put far too much weight into the meaning of words, so there were a couple instances in this book where the word choice took me out of the story. Both instances were the FMC, Sylvie, thinking about how her body was responding to her attraction for Jack and the words just gave me the ick. (Before anyone asks, no, the word was not 'moist' lol)”
