Why read on Fable?
Publisher Description
The second installment of the action-packed, fantasy-adventure series, The Jumbies.
Deep beneath the waves, a great enemy awakens . . .
Corinne LaMer defeated the wicked jumbie Severine months ago, but things haven’t exactly gone back to normal in her Caribbean island home. Everyone knows Corinne is half-jumbie, and many of her neighbors treat her with mistrust. When local children begin to go missing, snatched from the beach and vanishing into wells, suspicious eyes turn to Corinne.
To rescue the missing children and clear her own name, Corinne goes deep into the ocean to find Mama D’Leau, the dangerous jumbie who rules the sea. But Mama D’Leau’s help comes with a price. Corinne and her friends Dru, Bouki, and Malik must travel with mermaids across the ocean to fetch a powerful object for Mama D’Leau. The only thing more perilous than Corinne’s adventures across the sea is the jumbie that waits for her back home.
With action-packed storytelling and inventive twists on Caribbean and West African mythology and fairy tales, Rise of the Jumbies is a breathlessly exciting tale of courage and friendship.

“"Rise of the Jumbies" is my favorite book in The Jumbies Trilogy. Baptiste masterfully blends Caribbean and West African mythology to create a rich, immersive world that captivates from the very first page. The story is filled with action, adventure, and a touch of magic, making it a thrilling read for both young and adult readers. The characters are well-developed and relatable, each bringing their unique strengths to the narrative. The themes of courage, friendship, and resilience are beautifully woven throughout the story, adding depth and meaning to the adventure.”

“I thought the book was great and unique with its story, I just wished I read the first book because I didn’t know that it was a series.”

“Once upon a time, I worked at a daycare. There was a little girl in my group named Corinne and while today she would probably be about eighteen, I'm imagining her at eleven-years-old as this Corinne. She was one of my favorites in the group and picturing her as the badass, kind, and mostly selfless girl in this book makes me smile.
And of course, in case it isn't obvious, I devoured this book because it's amazing!!!”
