“I’m not surprised that some people didn’t love this book — it’s not your typical mystery. Isabel Allende has a way of diving deep into every single character, main and secondary, describing them with incredible detail — that’s part of what makes her writing so beautiful.
I didn’t see this book as a mystery so much as a psychological exploration of trauma and human relationships.
Isabel Allende is my favorite author, and even though this isn’t her usual genre, I really admire her for stepping out of her comfort zone and exploring something different.”
