Publisher Description

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

Another twisty bestselling thriller from Lisa Gardner featuring Pierce Quincy and Rainie Conner as they take on a case that hits far too close to home.

Eight years ago, Sharlah May Nash's older brother beat their drunken father to death with a baseball bat in order to save both of their lives. Now thirteen years old, Sharlah has finally moved on. About to be adopted by retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy and his partner, Rainie Conner, Sharlah loves one thing best about her new family: They are all experts on monsters.

Then the call comes in. A double murder at a local gas station, followed by reports of an armed suspect shooting his way through the wilds of Oregon. As Quincy and Rainie race to assist, they are forced to confront mounting evidence: The shooter may very well be Sharlah's older brother, Telly Ray Nash, and it appears his killing spree has only just begun.

As the clock winds down on a massive hunt for Telly, Quincy and Rainie must answer two critical questions: Why after eight years has this young man started killing again? And what does this mean for Sharlah? Once upon a time, Sharlah's big brother saved her life. Now, she has two questions of her own: Is her brother a hero or a killer? And how much will it cost her new family before they learn the final, shattering truth? Because as Sharlah knows all too well, the biggest danger is the one standing right behind you.

Right Behind You Reviews

4.0
“Right Behind You by Lisa Gardner opens with the kind of childhood trauma that makes you immediately go, “okay this is not going to be a calm read.” A young boy is found standing outside his burning home, family gone, silence louder than any confession. Fast forward years later and surprise, the past has not moved on, it just upgraded itself into a full psychological thriller. If you thought childhood issues stay in childhood, Gardner politely says, “cute assumption.” The middle of the book is where things get properly messy. The story flips timelines, dives into memory gaps, and keeps you guessing who is telling the truth and who is just really good at pretending. Quincy and the team are back doing their thing, trying to piece together a puzzle where every piece feels slightly off. Meanwhile the main character is out here carrying trauma, secrets, and questionable decisions like it is a personality trait. Matlab trust issues level itna high hai ki even Google Maps would say “recalculating.” The tension builds in that slow, uncomfortable way where you know something is wrong but can’t quite prove it yet. Every reveal feels like it answers one question and creates three more. Gardner keeps you hooked by making sure nobody is completely clean and nobody is completely guilty. You’re just sitting there changing your theory every five chapters like it’s a group project gone wrong. By the end, everything comes together in that classic “oh wow, so that’s what was happening” moment. The truth hits, the emotional weight lands, and you’re left slightly impressed and slightly disturbed. It’s not just about solving a crime, it’s about understanding how the past refuses to stay buried. Final verdict: smart, tense, and quietly haunting. Read it if you enjoy thrillers that mess with your head, play with timelines, and make you question every character’s version of events. Just remember, in this book, the past is never really behind you. It is… right behind you.”
“Definitely not a favorite by Gardner. Wasn’t at all that’s suspenseful to me, which is weird for her normal writing. And no where near the twists.”
