“"But [...] how is it possible to form a 'chain of equivalences' from classic proletarians, precariat, unemployed, refugees, opressed sexual and ethnic groups, and the like?
My expectations of the book were high - if this has the potential to contextualize the Communist Manifesto for our present neoliberal capitalist society in a way that everyone understands (like the simple yet comrehensive writing style of the Manifesto), it could be a very meaningful body of work. These expectations were fueled by the size of the book, only little over 50 pages.
The short book is very dense in content - but in classic Zizekian manner it builds upon Hegelian and Marxist theory which without you can get lost quickly. That is not to say that the average Zizek reader is not familiar with these concepts, quite the opposite.
But in relation to the work I had in mind, which a young reader could instantly pick up after the reading the Manifesto, this, despite good content, doesn't quite cut it.”
