Red Wolf
ByPublisher Description
For as long as sixteen-year-old Adele can remember, the village of Oakvale has been surrounded by the dark wood—a forest filled with terrible monsters. A forest that light itself cannot penetrate. Yet, unlike her fellow villagers, Adele cannot avoid the dark wood.
Adele is one of a long line of guardians: women who secretly take on the form of a wolf, in order to protect their village. But when accepting her fate means giving up the boy she loves, abandoning the future she imagined for herself, and breaking her own moral code, she must decide how far she is willing to go to keep her neighbors safe.

“FEMALE AUTHOR
FANTASY/ROMANCE (a little)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I enjoyed this book! I liked the retelling of Little Red Riding Hood but different and she’s a strong woman. I do wish this book was a series as I would have loved to learn more about the dark forest and the other villages around them and the “monsters” in the woods.
Be aware that this book does end in a slight cliffhanger, so if you’re someone who hates those, I’m sorry. 😞

“I honestly don't know how so many people gave this five stars. The premise of the story is good and the setting and lore could have really been built out but by the end of the book we seemed to have gotten so far from the original purpose of the mfc that she was actively just murdering everyone in the village. It also wasn't even a good ending! There are so many plot points that are just left open. I didn't like how they just thrust this world and responsibly of it on the main character and she basically reacted like oh this kinda sucks but whatever, no real anger or sense of betrayal towards her mother or grandmother who were basically ok if she just died while going through a trail she didn't know was coming and ruining her whole life she had planned. There are so many questions left unanswered. Why weren't there more white wolves Adele could have encountered to see how adults were and help the children. Her original love interest was betrayed by her and lost his hand for it; why would he not just constantly harass her and her family now that he has nothing left to lose? We are to believe two extremely experienced wolves can't track down a new wolf and two puppies in a forest they had no real plan on how to navigate? How did her grandma get murdered by some inexperienced townie with an axe!? At the very least she should have been fast enough to just move to the side. Why did we have ZERO faith in any of her friends and her love interest to keep her secret. At least Romy's mom knew how to love her even as a wolf, and would it really be so hard to explain that Adele and her family are good for the town and keep monsters away? What is she going to do now, shes basically killed more people than she has saved as the town "guardian" and everyone is suspicious of her and her family. She even killed her best friend's love and only suitable marriage option in that town! At that point just leave with you're whole family and let the town fend for itself, its probably better off.
Honestly could have been such a good storyline but it ultimately in my opinion was ruined by the constant bad choices of almost all the main characters and it did not provide any actual insight on the dark forest, why it's like that, how guardians started, and any real way to try to eventually stop the grow/reverse it.”
“I loved it. I giggled, smiled, kicked my feet, gasped, my jaw dropped, and i cried. There was nothing super sad, but i cried. The words were well written. I think i cried at certain quotes and words from characters. I just love it 🥰😭”
