Publisher Description

Fans of Children of Blood and Bone will love the sequel to Blood Heir. The second book in an epic fantasy series about a princess hiding a dark secret and the con man she must trust to liberate her empire from a dark reign.

Ana Mikhailov is the only surviving member of the royal family of Cyrilia. She has no army, no title, and no allies, and now she must find a way to take back the throne or risk the brutal retribution of the empress. Morganya is determined to establish a new world order on the spilled blood of non-Affinites. Ana is certain that Morganya won't stop until she kills them all.

Ana's only chance at navigating the dangerous world of her homeland means partnering with Ramson Quicktongue again. But the cunning crime lord has schemes of his own. For Ana to find an army, they must cross the Whitewaves to the impenetrable stone forts of Bregon. Only, no one can be certain what they will find there.

A dark power has risen. Will revolution bring peace--or will it only paint the streets in more blood.

Red Tigress Reviews

“WOW!! what a very strong second book! typically the second book is more of a filler, but this one did not feel like it! the story line was amazing and we met some great characters. SLOWWWW BURN too.”
“Sometimes middle books suffer from the middle book syndrome where they just go through the motions. Recruit to Ana's army. But, I found myself enjoying this book and I think it did help with momentum forward on to the 3rd book. A lot happened and we get a hint of the romance here. I don't think it suffered from middle book syndrome much. Unfortunately, a lot of death but some were warranted. I hate Sorsha! I wonder if Ana can turn Sorsha around, but we shall see! Plot spoilers below: Seyin, who is second command to Yuri, tries to kill Ana. Luckily, he doesn's succeed. However, in the epilogue, Seyin comes back and Yuri tells him to attempt again. Yuri's mother dies and this causes him to turn on Ana now. They want the monarchy to end and for the rule to go to the people. It's very true that the innocents die for the powers' war. It isn't fair. I kind of side with Yuri, but I don't think Ana needs to die for that to happen. Ana, Ramson, Linn, and Kaïs head to Bregon. They try to form an alliance with Bregon and we run into Ramson's dad and half-sister Sorsha. Later on, Ramson's dad is killed. Ramson gets to kill Kerlan. Sorsha unfortunately steals Ana's affinity and then escapes. Bregon had been siphoning affinite abilities and trying to add onto others and so far, it has only been working on Sorsha. Kaïs is Shemaira's son and almost turns on Linn and Ana, but eventualy realizes he needs to be good. Ana and Ramson kiss, but go their separate ways on their own missions. Ramson wants to track down all of Kerlan's old allies. Ana, with some of Bregon's ships, sails to march against Morganya. I think we'll see them back together in book 3. Linn with Kaïs are going back to Kemeira.”
