Red Hood

By Elana K. Arnold
Red Hood by Elana K. Arnold digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A dark, engrossing, blood-drenched tale of the familiar threats to female power—and one girl’s journey to regain it. Five starred reviews greeted this powerful story from Elana K. Arnold, author of the Printz Honor winner Damsel.

You are alone in the woods, seen only by the unblinking yellow moon. Your hands are empty. You are nearly naked. And the wolf is angry.

Since her grandmother became her caretaker when she was four years old, Bisou Martel has lived a quiet life in a little house in Seattle. She’s kept mostly to herself. She’s been good.

But then comes the night of homecoming, when she finds herself running for her life over roots and between trees, a fury of claws and teeth behind her.

A wolf attacks. Bisou fights back. A new moon rises. And with it, questions.

About the blood in Bisou’s past, and on her hands as she stumbles home.

About broken boys and vicious wolves.

About girls lost in the woods—frightened, but not alone.

“IF I COULD GIVE IT A ZERO I WOULD…I absolutely hate second-person perspective and by reading the summary I did not expect it to be like that and omg when I say the writing was in no way edited bc who let that slide. The amount of words that did not need to be said/repeated and I’m all for description and figurative language but it felt like too much and I was only on page 11..I ended it there I could not read any further. And even though it just started I could already tell it was lacking depth and introduction to the characters. The main character has her own name but is not described at all so I have no idea how to imagine this girl but using myself and I hate that the most!!! The “smut” came as a surprise as it started page 10 or something like that and even then there was no build up to make it remotely interesting to read, I just felt disgusted. Not to mention the sudden period and she’s 16 and runs out of the car into the forest??? I get it said it was her first period or whatever but seriously, RUNNING INTO THE FOREST???? I decided it was a no for me and I will not continue no matter how early I ended it, 11 pages was all I needed..maybe even less.”
“This was an intense read with a powerful message. Second Person POV isn't my favorite, however it did work for this book. it added an element of panic as the reader for what the character was experiencing. Such a fascinating retelling!”
