“Schreiber has good pacing and is a clever writer, but the book needed to be longer. The characters get kinda shotgunned at you in the beginning. Would have been better to get to know the characters a little better.
If you go into this expecting typical Star Wars themes and styles, you're in for a few surprises! I found the surprises (warning: things get more gruesome than you probably expect) all to be enjoyable because I appreciate the author's unique approach to Star Wars. I have to say that I found Death Troopers and especially Lockdown to be better overall stories.
I would recommend reading his SW novels in the opposite order to what I did. So I'd go Red Harvest, Death Troopers, Lockdown. That way, you get the best last (in my opinion).”
