Rebel Sisters
ByPublisher Description
In the epic, action-packed sequel to the "brilliant" (Booklist, starred review) novel War Girls, the battles are over, but the fight for justice has just begun.
It's been five years since the Biafran War ended. Ify is now nineteen and living where she's always dreamed--the Space Colonies. She is a respected, high-ranking medical officer and has dedicated her life to helping refugees like herself rebuild in the Colonies.
Back in the still devastated Nigeria, Uzo, a young synth, is helping an aid worker, Xifeng, recover images and details of the war held in the technology of destroyed androids. Uzo, Xifeng, and the rest of their team are working to preserve memories of the many lives lost, despite the government's best efforts to eradicate any signs that the war ever happened.
Though they are working toward common goals of helping those who suffered, Ify and Uzo are worlds apart. But when a mysterious virus breaks out among the children in the Space Colonies, their paths collide. Ify makes it her mission to figure out what's causing the deadly disease. And doing so means going back to the homeland she thought she'd left behind forever.

“Favorite quote(s):
“The war was an open wound, but no one wanted to treat it. No one wanted to speak of it or deal with it. People went about their lives, living next to the people who had murdered their families. But containing that inside you with no outlet, it destroys a person... The government tells you that there's peace and order and insists on rational dealings. But your mind, whether or not it has been fractured by trauma, knows there's more to life than this. So it protests. But you can't launch vigils or march in the streets, so these protests disappear into your body. They become kidney stones or trouble breathing. Backaches, migraines, neoplasms. Toothaches, depression, psychosis. They mushroom in your interpersonal relationships. Marriages fail, friendships disintegrate, the families left after the war are shattered.”
Review:
I loved this book and how it touched on history and on grief and trauma. I loved seeing new characters and ones from the previous book. I loved the growth and change throughout. I loved how complex this story was and how there was hope, even if there was a lot of darkness and trials. This book was such a good continuation of War Girls and I loved how well-written and descriptive it is. I loved seeing both Ify and Onyii’s stories, how different their paths were in this book, and their similarities. I loved the flashbacks and getting more on Onyii and Ify and their pasts and how it lead to them fighting a war and to every other moment in the books. I loved how complex this book was and how the characters were the same. This was such a good book!”
