Raising Stony Mayhall

By Daryl Gregory
Raising Stony Mayhall by Daryl Gregory digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From award-winning author Daryl Gregory, whom Library Journal called “[a] bright new voice of the twenty-first century,” comes a new breed of zombie novel—a surprisingly funny, vividly frightening, and ultimately deeply moving story of self-discovery and family love.

In 1968, after the first zombie outbreak, Wanda Mayhall and her three young daughters discover the body of a teenage mother during a snowstorm. Wrapped in the woman’s arms is a baby, stone-cold, not breathing, and without a pulse. But then his eyes open and look up at Wanda—and he begins to move.

The family hides the child—whom they name Stony—rather than turn him over to authorities that would destroy him. Against all scientific reason, the undead boy begins to grow. For years his adoptive mother and sisters manage to keep his existence a secret—until one terrifying night when Stony is forced to run and he learns that he is not the only living dead boy left in the world.

“Fantastic. Maybe the best zombie book I've ever read.”
“Different Well this was wild ride. This a really good book, not for action lovers though, or horror enthusiasts. This story isn't scary at all, and most times it's not even fast paced. We meet Stony, how he grows up and how everything affects the people around him. This book is almost like a memoir or a diary of a living dead person, a zombie with sort of a conscience. I would highly recommend this to anyone curious about the zombie genre but not a fan of horror. It starts at the end actually, and yet the end is an actual surprise. During the whole book everything will be explained, and then the meaning of the end will be clarified once you've met it. It was a bit slow at times but it fits the story so it wasn't really an issue. Would definitiely not recommens this for a light read, or for action and lots of horror and suspense. That's not what this book is. Do give it a chance though - it will surprise you!”
