At 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912, the Royal Mail Steamer Titanic, the largest passenger steamship of this time, met its catastrophic end after crashing into an iceberg. Of the 2,240 passengers and crew onboard, only 705 survived. Yanitzia Canetti is a Cuban-American writer, translator, and teacher. She has published more than 500 books, especially children's literature. Her works have been translated into English, Italian, Portuguese, Croatian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Chinese, among other languages. In turn, she has translated more than 200 books into Spanish from other authors, such as the Dr. Seuss series, Curious George, Amelia Bedelia, among others. She has received numerous awards and recognitions in the fields of literature and education— in 2011, she was chosen as one of the 25 most influential women in the Hispanic world by People en español magazine.
