About Alexander McCall Smith
Alexander McCall Smith is a British writer best known for
, published in 1988, which went on to become a twenty-two book series that inspired the hit HBO show. He was born in the former British colony, Southern Rhodesia, which is now Zimbabwe, in 1948. He studied law and was a professor of medical law at the University of Edinburgh for many years. He received a CBE for services to literature in 2007, was honored by the President of Botswana in 2011 for services through literature to the country, and received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement in 2009. He has received numerous other awards for his writing and holds twelve honorary doctorates from universities in Europe and North America.
He currently lives in Edinburgh with his wife.
