Preaching and Preachers
ByPublisher Description
'Some may object to my dogmatic assertions; but I do not apologize for them. Every preacher should believe strongly in his own method; and if I cannot persuade all of the rightness of mine, I can at least stimulate them to think and to consider other possibilities. I can say quite honestly that I would not cross the road to listen to myself preaching, and the preachers whom I have enjoyed most have been very different indeed in their method and style. But my business is not to describe them but to state what I believe to be right, however imperfectly I have put my own precepts into practice. I can only hope that the result will be of some help, and especially to young preachers called to this greatest of all tasks, and especially in these sad and evil times. With many others I pray that 'The Lord of the harvest may thrust forth' many mighty preachers to proclaim 'the unsearchable riches of Christ!''

“I can’t believe I’ve never read this book before, but I’m so glad I did. There were so many wonderful insights from the Doctor that I’m sure will help my own preaching. I would highly recommend this book to any young man considering preaching the Word of God vocationally.”
“Great book! Really helpful practical advice. Greatly appreciated Lloyd-Jones's emphasis on the Holy Spirit in preaching. Some "Lloyd-Jonesism," things he makes a deal out of (preachers wearing robes, pulpits being high up, etc) but that doesn't take away from the great benefit there is in reading this book.

“I believe Lloyd-Jones is such a good read for the same reason he was such a good listen. He has strong conviction. Lloyd-Jones is not hesitant to call certain preaching practices abominations, prostitution, and robbery. During a day when many people are scared to actually take a strong position on anything, this is refreshing to read. I am personally tired of reading books where the person gives you every possible opinion on a matter, and then never tells you their own.
But what surprised me from reading this book is how freeing much of Lloyd-Jones’ advice was. His constant urges to rely on God in our preaching and pray for the power of the Holy Spirit continually encouraged and convicted me. He is also not a “do it my way” type of preacher. Lloyd-Jones has a clear understanding that much of the practical side of preaching changes person to person. So he frequently encourages you to do what works best with how you best work.
Not sure why it took me so long to read this. I will for sure visit it again.”
