As an avid plant lover myself, I was instantly drawn to this story and felt an immediate connection to Yoohee Choi. Her devotion to her plants is both tender and intense, and the author uses that relationship to explore themes of loneliness, control, and identity in a way that feels intimate without being heavy-handed.
The writing is restrained and deliberate, letting the unease simmer beneath the surface. There is something deeply satisfying about watching Yoohee claim space, autonomy, and purpose through her plants. And honestly, men, don’t mess with her plants..
This is a thoughtful, slow-burn read that will appeal to readers who enjoy literary fiction with a dark, introspective edge, especially those who find comfort and meaning in caring for living things.
