“This book felt like something of a backward step, compared to the first book. While engaging and moving a a good pace, there were things that did not sit right with me. One, the characterization of Urza. He went from an obsessed but omniscient demi-god at the end of the first book to a manic Doc Brown-style character that lost a lot of his initial promise and interest. Two, although he is obsessed and clearly unhinged, I just couldn't buy the idea of him believing what Xantcha and Ratepe managed to deceive him with. Three, this is clearly a stepping stone book for the next one. I imagine when compared to the others it'll be lower on the list, if not bottom. Nice ending though. “This book jumped around a bit so it made it hard to follow a little bit but I did enjoy it.”
