Pirate’s Protector

By Lisa Kessler
Pirate’s Protector by Lisa Kessler digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

After two centuries as an immortal pirate, Duke Proctor figures he’s experienced pretty much everything. Which is exactly when he finds himself held at gunpoint…by a mermaid. But the exquisitely lush blonde—whose eyes are deeper than the sea—is here for a reason. Someone has stolen from her and she’s certain Duke is behind it.

Annika Mare knows for a fact that the Sea Dog’s crew has her comb. In the wrong hands, it places Annika under the control of whoever wields it. But the comb has been taken—and working with this unbelievably sexy human pirate to recover it poses an entirely different kind of threat.

Now these two immortals must find the thief, and fast. But there are other forces at work, bigger than Duke or Annika could possibly know. And a powerful artifact in the hands of evil isn’t nearly as dangerous as the sizzlingly-hot attraction that could engulf them both…

Pirate’s Protector Reviews

3.5
“*2 MERMAID STARS* “You make me want things I can’t have.” Yikes, although this was a super quick read that I breezed through, I think this was my least favorite book out of the ones I've read in this series so far. The romance was the best part. It developed super quickly, basically from insta-attraction to insta-love in a span of days, which is something I've grown used to in Lisa Kessler books. I still much prefer a slow burn, but it is what it is. The lack of communication between the pirate crew and Agent Bale is what I have issues with. If they just communicated all of the leads and information they had, they could have solved this so much quicker, it was so frustrating. I basically knew who the culprit was from page 1 with all the information the reader gets. I also expected this to end with a bang, but everything just kind of fizzled out, saving the action for the next book it seems. I don't know if I will be reading that one tbh.”
“We get mermaids in this one! Who knew I needed a pirate and a mermaid falling in love. It was interesting to learn the differences Annika notices. We also learn more about the captain they left behind on a deserted island. This can be read as a standalone but I recommend starting at the beginning of the series because there are bits of the past sprinkled through all the books. Duke is held at gunpoint by a mermaid demanding her comb. It was given to the crew following the events of the last book. Annika is desperate to get her comb back. If it falls into the wrong hands they would be able to control her. To makes matters worse this means she hasn't been in the water in over a month. Despite their rough meeting Duke vows to help Annika get her comb back, even reaching out to Department 13. Only for them to discover that her comb has been taken, an agent is missing and so are other relics. Annika tries to keep Duke at arm's length but that gets hard the more time they spend together. Thanks so much to the author, Entangled and NetGalley for this ARC to review.”
“I just can’t help but love this series! I just love that in each installment we get to know a little bit better all Sea Dog’s crew, and in this one we see more of a character that was so quiet and private in the other books, so i felt that all was new. The plot with the merfolk was really interesting and got me addicted to this story. The only point in this book that I wasn’t totally invested was the insta love, but its just a personal preference! Other than that, the couple was perfect and i just adore the ending, how they dedicated they were to the other. I can’t wait to the next one, and I hope we get the story of Captain Flynn. Thanks Entangled team and NetGalley for the ARC. This book was gifted in exchange of a review, but all this opinions are my own,”
“Back with the Pirate Crew like no other! Now it's Duke's turn to get spiked by Cupids Arrow. Duke may be second in charge on the ship but that didn't stop him from siding with the crew against their previous captain. He has kept a secret or two in his time and currently the biggest he's keeping belongs to his current captain-in-name-only Ian. He's had a lot of professions over the year but now runs a security company. He never expected that when he met a female who could hold his interest that she'd shoot him in the foot! What in introduction to the beautiful Annika. Annika is a mermaid. Unlike folklore, her people came from the Stars - they just opened a portal into the depths of the sea. They soon realised that Earth was not for them, but not before some had lost their combs and therefore Annika made it her responsibility to ensure that the portals stayed closed and to secure the missing combs. Now the Sea Dog crew are part of her "team" to secure the combs, whilst warding off Section 13. However, the department is having a headache of their own - it would seem they have a leak and someone is siphoning off relics. Are these thefts linked to the mole or a separate problem? Lots to keep you interested and I loved the new spin on Mermaids from Space! Annika and Duke were a great pairing and I enjoyed the sparks they gave off. Annika is no damsel in distress and she can take care of Duke if & when the need arises. Plenty of red herrings and a couple of big reveals. I'm actually coming around to liking Ian! His secret ws heartbreaking. Roll on book 8 please!”
