“I ended up thinking the setting was beautiful and unique and dissapointed that nothing was actually done with it. I wanted to explore the labyrinth, and unravel mysteries in this surreal world that's being described to me. Instead, the incredible environment just isn't used and to me becomes a detriment with how repetitive it makes the writing.
Every reveal of the main plot ended up making it more and more generic and predictable. I felt like the book would have been better for being twice the length and actually doing something with the setting. There ended up being very little to it by the end. All style, no substance for me. The main characters are static throughout the book as well, no real growth or change.
For me it was a huge disappointment and I give it 1.75 albatrosses crashing into the south western hall.”
