Persephone Made Me Do It
By Trista MateerPublisher Description
Bestselling and Goodreads Choice Award-winning author Trista Mateer returns with another mythical approach to self-care in her newest poetry collection, Persephone Made Me Do It.
Following her previous work in this series, Mateer weaves together mythology, tarot, poetry, and conversation to reveal a new side of a very old story. Alternating between the perspectives of poet and goddess, Persephone’s lore is explored, related to modern issues, and ultimately reclaimed.
“You want to talk about duality? You want to talk about love? Let us speak instead of chaos.”
In this new collection of art and feminist verse from Trista Mateer, Persephone might have flowers in her hair—but she is out for blood.
This is the third book in the Myth & Magick series, which also includes Aphrodite Made Me Do It and Artemis Made Me Do It.

“did not move me as much as the last one, but i appreciate the message it brings. there's a love-hate relationship between mother & daughter here, which feels like the main theme, and it hit home. i also sympathize with the acknowledgement of abuse rather than the glorification of persephone's abductor, knowing how modern adaptations of her story has been watered-down into accepting there was love. overall, it's the kind of poetry that's both powerful and vulnerable at the same time.”

“Where do I start with this beauty? I love this series so much, and I feel like in my other two reviews I say the same thing, but I just love the way these books are written. They are just so real and powerful, and so quick and easy to read.
"My mother, kisses my cheek and says I look just like her. Then she stands in front of the mirror and destroys herself." Are we kidding? Literally feels like a knife to the gut.
"You are a poetic mess of contradictions. Why would you ever want to be anything less?" Oh...
My mother would have destroyed the earth to save me. She tried to." Please, the mother-daughter angst is almost too much to handle.
"You cannot please everyone. You were not made to please anyone." This one has a little kick to it”
