Perfect Imperfections

Perfect Imperfections by Mariah Ankenman digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

When life is a ball of anxiety, it's hard to form relationships. That's why Ellie Clark prefers animals to people. As one of the head aviary keepers at the Sunlight Zoo, she enjoys spending her days with the feathery friends who don't judge her OCD compulsions. So, when she saves a child who falls into the penguin pool, Ellie finds it strange she ends up connecting with the young girl. Stranger still is this burning attraction to the young girl's handsome father.

Dr. Sullivan Green had been taking care of his daughter on his own since his ex-wife left. Charlotte is the top priority in his life. All his care and focus centers on her. But for the first time in years, he feels a yearning to take something for himself. The woman who saved his daughter intrigues him and wakes up something he thought long dead. Something he isn't sure he can survive again.

The more time Ellie and Sullivan spend together, the more the heat between them builds. Passion ignites, but that's not all. They discover the bumpy, broken pieces of themselves fit perfectly to form a beautiful picture. One filled with love, family, and acceptance. But are they brave enough to take a risk on love when heartache is always lurking in the shadows?

Perfect Imperfections Reviews

4.0
“Disclaimer: I received this book for free for my honest review. 4.25/5. First thing, penguins do have knees, and knee anatomy and the Ellie would have known that, but that's okay! Besides that, I loved this books in the beginning. The main character, Ellie, is one of the keepers of the avian building and a sucker for animal puns. She also has OCD and we see a refreshingly accurate portrayal of the disorder. The character mentions therapy and their awareness of the situation and we see how those thoughts manifest info behaviors. It's so nice to see kind of writing of a character instead of some Hollywood portrayal of mindless obsession with cleanliness and no order to the disorder. Then we meet Sullivan, the main hot doctor of the book. I do wish, on the topic of therapy and help, he would get some before getting involved with Ellie. He's a great single father doing his best but he needs (mental/emotional) help. He needed to get his daughter help. Yes, everyone wants everyone to be happy, but when we get the author portraying the ex-wife (Claire) as an addict in recovery, and includes an emergency therapy session for Ellie when she is having trouble with her triggers, but then we never see Sullivan or Charlotte get therapy for some very traumatic events in their lives(Falling into an enclosure, seeing her dad dating someone, learning about the fate of her mother)? I really wish we had seen Sullivan even consider it after the fact, like when he realized he was pushing Ellie away, because it makes me feel like Ellie is the only one with a problem and Sullivan and Charlotte are just floating through life with love and happy thoughts. It makes them feel shallow as characters. I would have like to seen them work together on their shared trauma. I feel like that's where the book kinda succeeded at having you suspended reality for a love story, but at the same time, it disappoints as a "contemporary" love story for me (which it could have very much have been)”
