Publisher Description

"Parish"

In the heart of summer, five vibrant and unapologetically Black friends set out on a thrilling journey to the Essence Festival, ready to immerse themselves in a celebration of culture, music, and sisterhood. However, their joyride takes a dark turn when they're pulled over on a dirt road.

What begins as a chance encounter with two local cops, quickly unravels into a nightmarish descent into the darkest corners of humanity. In Parish, the humid air is thick with secrets, and the streets echo with the unsettling silence of suppressed history.

As tensions rise, they become entangled in a sinister battle for survival against the town's malevolent forces—a toxic blend of racism, corruption, and an unrelenting, deadly police force. These young women must rely on their wits, resilience, and the unbreakable bond of sisterhood to navigate the harrowing maze of terror that unfolds before them.

"Parish" is a raw, unflinching exploration of the horrors that can lurk beneath the surface of seemingly picturesque communities. With splatterpunk intensity, it delves deep into the grotesque, exposing the brutality of prejudice and the strength of those who refuse to be silenced.

Prepare yourself for a visceral and confronting experience that will leave you haunted by the haunting reality of "Parish."

“I got this short story last year and honestly, completely forgot about it as it downloaded to BookFunnel which I also completely forgot about. I saw a couple reviewers talking about it and went “WAIT A MINUTE!”. Thank goodness because I’ve been sleeping on something really great. Sylvester really wrote something incredibly enticing and honestly, refreshing in the extreme horror genre with Parish. In 55 pages, he built up some pretty great main characters that I cared about and some horrifically evil antagonists in those racist, piece of shit cops. The gore was well done and the twists and turns kept me interested and surprised. The added short story at the end ‘Neighbor’ was FANTASTIC. Give me more of that right now. Definitely have my eye on this author now.”
“First and foremost I loved this story and wished it was longer. This book is a combination of the movies Girls Trip meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If you’re a fan of both you’d love this. The author did a fantastic job at making you love the characters from the beginning I immediately related to their bonds and it reminded me of how me and my sisters are with each other with the petty banter back and forth but would do anything for each other. The book is short so the story builds up quickly and once the action starts it doesn’t end. Be prepared for some racial tension and racism spewed from specific characters but the author does a great job with building the backstory without drawing out the unnecessary racism + homophobia or discrimination. It all feeds into the story without becoming overwhelming and keeps you engaged and rooting for the real heroes of the story.”
