Publisher Description

An electric blend of sci-fi and horror, Paradise-1 begins a terrifying new trilogy of exploration and survival in deep space from Arthur C. Clarke Award-nominated author David Wellington.

"A superior space thriller that never flags....Readers will be on the edge of their seats." Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Paradise-1. Earth’s first deep space colony. For thousands of people, it was an opportunity for a new life. Until it went dark.

No communication has been received from the colony for months. And it falls to Firewatch inspector Alexandra Petrova and the crew of the Artemis to investigate.

What they find is more horrifying than anything they could have imagined.

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“Okay, so let’s talk about Paradise-1 by David Wellington. This book is a freakin’ rollercoaster of space horror and sci-fi goodness. So, we have three people—a pilot, Sam Parker; a special agent, Alexandra Petrova; and Dr. Zhang Li—on their way to Paradise-1, a human colony on a planet in another part of the solar system. They’re in cryo-sleep for 90 days (because, you know, space), but then bam—the ship gets attacked, they wake up all disoriented, and the real chaos begins. Cue the weird something messing with their shop, Artemis' AI. Oh and there's the robot, Rapscallion. Honestly, I was so invested in this book, it was ridiculous. Like, there wasn’t a single second where I wasn’t glued to the pages. Every chapter had me on the edge of my seat. And Rapscallion? I loved that character! It was snarky, but in a way that made it super endearing. It had a vibe like it was almost human with its banter and interactions with the rest of the crew. It was honestly one of my favorite parts of the book, and I was genuinely hoping nothing bad would happen to it—because I loved it that much. The action in Paradise-1 is intense and relentless. When Artemis gets attacked, the crew is thrown into utter chaos, and what follows is a non-stop struggle for survival. They scramble to figure out how to fend off the next attack, and you can feel the tension as they work together to keep things from spiraling out of control. There were times when I was jumping up and down because of the adrenaline. The book delivers a mini space battle that’s full of heart-pounding moments, with twists and turns that keep you on your toes. I can’t find anything huge to complain about. But—here’s the thing—there were a lot of flashbacks toward the end. Like, maybe five chapters in a row? I’m just saying, a little too much looking back, but I get why it was happening, so I let it slide. But, still, it did knock it down half a star for me. I’m giving this book 4.5 stars because it was an absolute page-turner. If you’re into space, sci-fi, or just straight-up horror (with a side of robot drama), then Paradise-1 should definitely be on your list. Trust me, you won’t regret it!”
“this was an ok book... didn't regret to read it. I just felt the book was too big for wath the plot was. the characters I felt had no depth just name attach on a person. the world building was ok. the pace is where this book were shining. if this book had about 200 pages less and maybe more depth on the characters that book could be closer of 4 star. at the end of the day was still a good read it had fun with it and I will read the sequel, but will most likely not go in my list for my book of the year.”
Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“This book scratched every itch in my brain for an enjoyable read. Every new encounter was a mystery box of horror and intrigue. The characters were diverse and likeable; I found myself invested in their lives and experiences. I look forward to the sequel.”
