Parade

By Shuichi Yoshida & Philip Gabriel
Parade by Shuichi Yoshida & Philip Gabriel digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

In a crowded two-bedroom apartment in Tokyo, four Japanese twenty-somethings are waiting for their lives to begin. They have come from all over Japan, bringing with them dreams of success and romance, but life isn’t exactly going as planned. Kotomi waits by the phone for a boyfriend who never calls, Ryosuke is sleeping with his best friend’s girlfriend, and Mirai’s drinking has become a serious problem. Only Naoki, an aspiring filmmaker and the glue that keeps them all together, seems to be on the right track. Meanwhile, their next door neighbors are up to something suspicious, and a mysterious attacker is terrorizing the neighborhood.

When a homeless teenager suddenly appears, his arrival sets off a chain of events that will bring to light dark secrets the tenants of Apt. 401 have kept from one another—and from themselves. Parade—from Shuichi Yoshida (“Japan’s Stieg Larsson” —The Wall Street Journal), the wildly popular author of Villain—is a shocking story of life in the big city.

“4 young adults - 2 men, 2 women, sharing an apartment- one of their ex girlfriends visit often , and another youngster is taken in. This book takes us through their unconventional lives. The whole book, especially the ending is typical Japanase dysfunctional stuff. Each character is given a narrative, and we get to know them through their voice as well as through others' eyes.”
“"I walked away from all sorts of places, always walking away, but never arriving anywhere." - Shuichi Yoshida, Parade . .”
“Honestly kinda disappointed. The way that the book was advertised made it seem like there was a bunch of mysteries that will be uncovered. “His arrival will set off a chain of events that will bring to light dark secrets of the tenants…” made it seems like the secrets that were revealed were caused by him, but really he didn’t cause it. And the secrets weren’t dark. Honestly, looking into the lives of these 5 people, 3 of them have a storyline that is interesting on their own. I got bored reading in some parts.”
