“This book is required reading if you've ever been a fan of horror fiction. Especially if your unfamiliar with the genre back in the 70's/80's. It explains how we got to the point were at today. All of these authors had to crawl so that current authors could walk. Grady goes into deep description of all the macabre subgenres. The book itself is beautiful because its plagued with those filthy morbid disgusting covers of old school horror literature. I checked this book out from my local library and before I was halfway through it I had to purchase my own copy. I thought I had a great understanding of the history and knowledge of horror fiction but I expanded my knowledge of the genre by at least double it was before. Ever since I have been collecting them. It's gonna be hard to obtain them all because of the cost and it will only increase the longer I wait since a lot of the less popular novels are out of print. Thankfully valencourt is re-releasing previous out of print works in brand new updated paperbacks. I cant recommend this book enough because I got to learn so much about the genre I love the most. Thank you grady hendrix.”
