Paladin's Faith

By T. Kingfisher
Paladin's Faith by T. Kingfisher digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From Hugo Award winning author T. Kingfisher:

Marguerite Florian is a spy with two problems. A former employer wants her dead, and one of her new bodyguards is a far too good-looking paladin with a martyr complex.

Shane is a paladin with three problems. His god is dead, his client is much too attractive for his peace of mind, and a powerful organization is trying to have them both killed.

Add in a brilliant artificer with a device that may change the world, a glittering and dangerous court, and a demon-led cult, and Shane and Marguerite will be lucky to escape with their souls intact, never mind their hearts…

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“Gosh. I laughed (which I expected), I cried (which I did not expect), and my mind was blown (which I expected, but for a reason I did not expect). Definitely on a par with the other books in the series. I liked it a little less, as the majority of the setting is more focused on court intrigue and espionage (which is not generally my favourite setting), however I liked it a little more as it expanded the world even further and was even more emotive in some places. So it evens out for me. I think also the shift away from the overarching storyline, especially after the ending of the last book, was a little jarring, so it took a little time to get into this one. The world-building is paced beautifully, growing organically as people encounter different things. The characters continue to be layered and generally lovable. The audiobook narrator is the same person, and - yet again - does a fantastic job. I have seen one or two people lament the change in main enemy during the book, as though it were a bait n switch of some kind against the reader, however it is done well and enough Chekhov's guns are not just scattered through this book but also sprinkled through the series in general that I do not think it is an unreasonable change or badly written. All up, another great book, and I hope there will be more!”
Rolling on the Floor Laughing Face“Alright, first, I want to be Beartongue when I grow up. She’s a total badass. Also, how can we get a temple of the White Rat going? A religious organization that is practical? Sign me up. Another fun book set in this world that I can’t get enough of. I NEED more, Ms. Kingfisher. Please. 🥺”
