“Another great anthology by Saundra Mitchell. I still like the 1st one best (All Out) but this was great. Filled with stories of queer people living their lives in the future. Showing that queer kids belong in our future.”
“Other people might get more out of this than I did, and even though I mildly enjoyed the stories, even really enjoyed a couple of them, I don’t think this book was really for me. As with any short story collection, the premises of some stories interested me more than others, but in general, I don’t think the short story format worked for me in this case. The story length, or perhaps the target audience (YA is not usually a category I really enjoy), did not seem to allow much nuance or subtlety. I can’t fault a YA book too much for having the hallmarks of YA, but many of these stories would work just as well, if not better, with characters in their twenties rather than their teens. I also noticed a few typos and grammatical errors, occurring about once per story.
All that said, I can see the value in a collection like this, and I did find some of the science fiction aspects intriguing, even if I would probably have gotten more out of the concepts had they been in full novels with the space to fully flesh the ideas out.”
