“My first Karen Russell book. Each story has its own fantastically strange world that pulls you in as the author builds elements around you. They are about lived human experiences layered with peculiarities and insights. My favorites include “The Bad Graft”, where the spirit of a Joshua tree leaps into the body of woman contemplating her relationship; “Bog Girl: A Romance”, where a boy falls in love with a preserved body of a young woman he found and pulled out from muddy ground; and “Tornado Auction”, where a retired farmer uses his savings to buy a baby tornado and raise it in his farm.”

KAREN RUSSELL has received a MacArthur Fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship, the "5 under 35" prize from the National Book Foundation, the New York Public Library Young Lions Award, and the Berlin Prize from the American Academy. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, son, and daughter.
