“It gave what it said it was gonna give! I was amazed at how this book swept me up and entertained me. One of Ræden’s little lines even made my heart flutter!
My biggest gripe was the fact that Rædan and Rebekah had a history. I never like reading a romance novel where the couple has an off screen romantic past. It feels like I’ve been dropped into season 3 of a show and not season 1!
I see the appeal for a writer. It’s the perfect reason attraction! Instant lust! Instant depth! But I prefer romances where the author *shows* me the couple falling love, not when the author tells me “they had a deep and passionate bond”.
Personally, I do not like reading romance novels from a man’s perspective. So I would’ve liked the story better if it was entirely narrated by Rebekah, but alas.
Aside from that, I enjoyed the story. There was a great sense of conflict throughout to drive the story forward. A lot was happening, but it felt natural. It didn’t have a huge twisty plot or complex villains, but those villains sure did give Rebekah and Rædan plenty of drama and conflict to ensure they couldn’t just get together happily.
I liked Rebekah a lot. She’s smart, sweet, and does what needs to be done! I liked that she’s a bad cook. That was a cute detail! There were a lot of details in the book that gave me an idea of what the settings were like on Ræden’s farm where they had to work the land and grind grain for bread.
Rædan’s POV didn’t endear me to him at all. I didn’t care for him as a character, but I still wanted him with Rebekah. What did make me like him? That comment he made about Rebekah’s hair “It will grow again, just like my love for you.” That got me!
I had a lot of fun with this book. I’n ready for more medieval romances, this will certainly be the first of many.”

“More of a 3.5.
Book started off ok, I’m glad that they handled the big miscommunication earlier on in the book. However, the heroes main issue took a while to be addressed, which just felt like I made the book drag on. Also, I just feel like it didn’t have a real conclusion.
The very objectively evil villains are expected to have survived because the hero decided last minute that he was more happy to let them live, despite the fact that they pose a ongoing threat
Overall, it was a nice enough. Read easy to finish the single day. The authors writing was fine, but not particularly interested in reading another book though.”

“A wonderful romance, with a solid adventure plot, a bit of suspense, well-done research and steamy lovemaking. And breathtaking descriptions to boot! I particularly enjoyed them: it was like being in a Viking village together with the characters. The characters are so vivid, full of live, two broken people who find each other again after being torn apart and having suffered a lot. The psycological aftermath of their ordeals was handled beautifully by the author and the general atmosphere of the book is never too angsty. The only thing I hated is that the villain didn’t have a proper reckoning at the end. But I guess I’m meaner and more bloodthirsty than the hero and heroine of the book…
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
