By Freida McFaddenPublisher Description
A heart pounding, twisting thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of The Housemaid and The Coworker!
One by one, they will get what they deserve...
Claire Matchett needs this trip. It will be a break from work and raising children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubbing with friends at a luxurious hotel in the woods, disconnected from the pressures of real life.
Then, on a lonely dirt road, Claire's minivan breaks down. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to walk the rest of the way to their remote accommodation. But the forest is dark and difficult to navigate and, hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.
As they venture deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously, one by one. Are they being hunted? And by what―or who? As Claire's dream vacation descends into a nightmare, something becomes clear: only one of them will return home alive.
A taut story of betrayal and survival from New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden that will leave you wondering if there's any way out of the woods…

“Book Review:
One By One
By Freida McFadden
Ratings: 3.85 Stars (Rounded off to 4 on Goodreads)
"Got a secret, can you keep it?
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you, then I know you won't tell what I said
'Cause two can keep a secret if one of them is dead"
I remembered this song when I finished reading the book.
As much as I know that the motivation of the villain is too superficial and petty, I also am obsessed with a petty villain. It's a paradox! I can't help it. I would have done the same thing if I were to become a villain. I always agree with the villain when the motivation is poetic justice.
Freida is really the writer that would keep you guessing in the end. On the other hand, I find it stupid for the villain/s to always reveal their whole plans in the end. Like, wtf? You're not cleaning up so well, guy/s / gal/s! Haha.
But I enjoyed this read. It was refreshing and very smart in a lot of ways. I already guessed right early on in the first 15 chapters. The characters showed their motives in small volumes and through snarky comments. But until the end, I kept second-guessing myself. So that's still amazing. It's unpredictable in a way.
A Freida read is always entertaining. This is my third read of hers. But I honestly enjoyed it more than The Locked Door and The Teacher.”
