Publisher Description

On the Incarnation with an introduction by C.S. Lewis

By any standard, this is a classic of Christian theology. Composed by St. Athanasius in the fourth century, it expounds with simplicity the theological vision defended at the councils of Nicaea and Constantinople: that the Son of God himself became "fully human, so that we might become god." Its influence on all Christian theology thereafter, East and West, ensures its place as one of the few "must read" books for all who want to know more about the Christian faith.

“This is a great read for Christians who want to know more about the early church view on the incarnation of Jesus. It was written in a time where a lot of people were starting to question it and it is amazing to see a fourth century Bishops take on the incarnation. I think it’s beautiful how Athanasius weaves together a narrative of Jesus, taking on flesh, and yet not being corrupted by it, but instead of bringing life to that which he created in the beginning. One drawback is that I think that this book is more for a people who are already believers in the divine. While it gives great defenses to Jesus being God, it doesn’t really address the belief in God in end of itself for example, it speaks to Gentiles who mock Jesus but worship with the Greek gods also it speaks to Jewish people who believe Jesus to be no one other than a crazy person, but still believe in God in the Jewish sense. It is not a book. I would recommend to people who don’t believe in the divine at all, but for someone who wants to taste in church history, and for someone that wants to greater understand the impact of Jesus, taking on flesh it is a great read.”
