“Too much lingo
On Her Watch had such a promising synopsis I was so excited to dive into the story of Lieutenant Liz Grand and Linc. Then I started reading and honestly from the first pages I was so lost it was amazing. I struggled to understand what was going on, who was who, and understand all the technical jargon On Her Watch was riddled with. I continued to press forward for over half the book when I decided I couldn’t handle any more of this book. I have no idea what happened in this story and so I decided this book wasn’t for me. I think one thing that bothered me was Liz gets beaten half to death and can still be aroused for Linc. Really? I mean I guess but that seems a bit of a stretch for the average person.
Anyway On Her Watch was a DNF for me.”

“On Her Watch begins right where In His Command leaves off, so it would have been good if I'd read the first book beforehand. I'm sure that the majority of the world-building was done in the first book. This one throws the reader in head-first, so it took a little bit for me to understand exactly what was going on, how the armed forces worked, etc. It's not impossible - eventually I figured it out, but the characters from the first are constantly referred to, so if you're thinking about this series, start from the beginning!
I enjoyed Liz a lot - she was a hard-ass but with a heart! She'd persevered through a lot in her life. Linc, on the other hand, I loved his character. Having to live the life he did for his family and not becoming what he hated while being surrounded by it at all times? Very strong character. Their love scenes were H-O-T hot!
For an entirely different reason I wish I had read In His Command first - it must, even if just barely brushing over it, had Liz in it with her journey into the woods. I really have to read it!
Thank you to NetGalley or providing this ARC.”

About Rie Warren
Badass, sassafras Rie Warren is an OG Amazon All-Star author of Bad Boy books and MC romance. She delivers five-star sex, suspense, and the best banter around. Her stories are one-hundred percent original, do not contain fluffy plots or virgin brides, and wring every last emotion from readers to leave them with a satisfied smile. Rie's tough alpha males are never brought to heel, but are instead healed by the feisty femme fatale of their perfect match.
She grew up in Maine, went to college in Iowa (Iowa, what?), lived in Scotland, and married an Englishman. In true roundabout fashion, they came back to the States, settled in South Carolina's lowcountry, putting down southern roots and pursuing their arty endeavors. Tale spinner and character diviner, Rie is a lover of sleep, wine, and rude memes often involving either Disney characters or Winnie the Pooh. She is raising two teen daughters along with an entire brain full of unruly characters.
Rough-talking alpha men? Rie has that on tap.
