By Nic Stone
Odd One Out by Nic Stone digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Dear Martin comes an honest and touching depiction of friendship, first love, and everything in between. Perfect for fans of Love, Simon and What If It's Us.

Courtney Cooper and Jupiter Sanchez (Coop & Jupe!) have been next-door neighbors and best friends since they were seven-years-old. She's his partner-in-crime and other half. But lately, Cooper can't ignore he might want something more than friendship from Jupiter.

When Rae Chin moves to town she can't believe how lucky she is to find Coop and Jupe. Being the new kid is usually synonymous with pariah, but around these two, she finally feels like she belongs. She's so grateful she wants to kiss him...and her.

Jupiter has always liked girls. But when Rae starts dating Cooper, Jupe realizes that the only girl she ever really imagined by his side was her.

One story. Three sides. No easy answers.

Odd One Out Reviews

3.5
“I wanted to read this book because I enjoyed Nic Stone’s previous work, and I wanted to read more of her. This book was a sucker-punch to the gut, but I loved it. This book has three points of view. The first point of view is Courtney Cooper, and he has been dumped again. And normally he wouldn’t mind. But right now, his best friend and source of solace, Jupiter Sanchez is ignoring him to text some other girl. The second point of view is Rae Chin, and she is the new girl, and she thought it would be synonymous with pariah, but Jupiter and Courtney made her feel like she is right where she belongs. She also wants to kiss him, and her. Which is confusing. The last point of view is Jupiter Charity-Sanchez and the worse thing to her is losing the girl you love to a boy is losing her to your boy. That means losing him, too. So, she has to make move. This is one story, three sides and no easy answers. I wish I had this book during high school. I think most high schoolers should read this book. Hell, I think everyone should read this book. I love Jupiter, she was my favourite out of the three. Did she go about some things the wrong way during this book? Yes, but she is a teenager, she was confused and scared. Isn't it the whole point of life to be able to make mistakes? I just wanted to hug her so much especially with her not wanting to change her sexuality because of the amount of shit she might have gotten from her peers. I liked Rae and wanted to hug her as well, especially with her being confused whether she wanted Courtney or Jupiter and she didn’t want to break up the friendship. Courtney took a while to grow on me; it was like he was playing both girls. He wanted Jupiter to notice him and wanted her but knew she was gay. But then was keeping secrets from Rae and Jupiter and then was pissed off when it all exploded in his face. I liked Courtney’s friends, and I would love to see more of them and for them to be part of the main friendship group. For “macho” men they were so sweet with Jupiter, and I loved them. I would have liked the POVs to be blended. Like I would have loved a POV from Rae after Jupiter confessed everything. I would have loved to have seen her thoughts and her talking to Courtney. All we’ve got was Jupiter moping for three chapters and being paranoid and it turns out Courtney and Rae are fine with Jupiter and was understanding. I understood the points of three stories, but I would have liked it where it goes Courtney’s POV for one chapter, Rae’s POV for one chapter and then Jupiter’s POV for another and blended like that, I think it would have worked better. Overall, I love this book, and I love Nic Stone. She could write her shopping list, and I would still like to read it.”
