Oathbound
ByPublisher Description
Tracy Deonn’s #1 New York Times bestselling Legendborn Cycle continues in the sensational third book about a dazzling contemporary fantasy world that blends Southern Black Girl Magic with secret societies and the legend of King Arthur!
Severed from the Legendborn. Oathbound to a monster.
Bree Matthews is alone. She exiled herself from the Legendborn Order, cut her ancestral connections, and turned away from the friends who can’t understand the impossible cost of her powers. This is the only way to keep herself—and those she loves—safe.
But Bree’s decision has come with a terrible price: an unbreakable bargain with the Shadow King himself, a shapeshifter who can move between humanity, the demon underworld, and the Legendborn secret society. In exchange for training to wield her unprecedented abilities, Bree has put her future in the Shadow King’s hands—and unwittingly bound herself to do his bidding as his new protégé.
Meanwhile, the other Scions must face war while their Round Table is fractured, leaderless, and missing its Kingsmage, as Selwyn has also disappeared. When Nick invokes an ancient law that requires the High Council of Regents to grant him an audience, the Order’s Merlins imprison him. No one knows what he will demand of the Regents…or what secrets he has kept hidden from the Table.
As a string of mysterious kidnappings escalates and Merlins are found dead, it becomes clear that no matter how hard Bree runs from who she is, the past will always find her.

“Unfortunately every book on this series gets worse. Every book prior was in Bree’s POV and all of a sudden we get around 5 POVs for half of the book and then they disappear and we get Bree for the rest of it.
The POVs we got really didn’t add much to the story itself and it felt odd to go from one POV to so many halfway through this series.
Anyone who loves Sel won’t be happy with this book as he mostly doesn’t exist.
This book is also just way too long. I was bored through most of it and couldn’t wait for it to end.”

“Still really love this series. Honestly, maybe it's just that I'm not paying enough attention but I'm getting to a point where I don't know entirely what is happening, but I'm still having a fun time”

“Whoo! Bree’s back and so is Nick. I missed his character a lot in Bloodmarked and the confidence he instills in Bree. In this one she was fearful yet valiant. The new cast of characters and the trials were interesting. The lore in this series continues to build in fun and interesting ways. In short, I loved this, and it reminded me of what I loved so much in Legendborn, the Black girl magic, Black resilience, true depictions of allyship and love. Exacting indictments against racism, misogyny and patriarchy. In this one we have a much more resolved Bree by the end, and that has so much to do with the people in her corner. There’s a special brand of found family in this series that’s fortifying for readers. I struggled with Bloodmark, but the magic is back in Oathbound!”

“I was so excited for Bree & Nick to solidify their relationship (they are endgame for me). The underlying plot is great and the cliffhanger ending has me wanting book four now! Can’t wait to finish this series.”
