Publisher Description

"Twisted friendships, toxic pasts and tangled motives—this is Sara Shepard doing what she does best!"—Ruth Ware, New York Times bestselling author

#1 New York Times bestselling author of Pretty Little Liars Sara Shepard's next adult novel follows a group of mothers living in a mysterious “mommune,” each of whom is running from something

When Lenna gets a call from her old friend Rhiannon, she is startled; Rhiannon disappeared years ago without a trace. But Lenna is even more startled to learn that Rhiannon has a son and that she lives off the grid with a group of women in a community called Halcyon. Rhiannon invites Lenna, a new mother herself, to join them. Why suffer the sleepless nights by yourself? It takes a village, after all.

Lenna decides to go and hopefully repair her relationship with Rhiannon, but as she drives into the desert and her cell service gets weaker, she becomes suspicious. Who are these women and why did Rhiannon invite her here? And that is before she learns about the community's rules (no outside phone calls, no questions about people’s pasts) and the padlock on the gate that leads out to the main road. But Lenna has other concerns, secrets from her past she is terrified will come out. When a newcomer arrives in the community, Lenna’s worst fears are confirmed—she was brought here for a reason.

Nowhere Like Home tackles themes of complicated friendships and trauma but all with Sara Shepard’s expert twists that you don’t see coming.

Thinking Face“Nowhere Like Home - Sara Shepard Format: Audiobook Narrator: Brittany Pressley Genre: Thriller Date read: 23 January 2024 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lenna and Rhiannon were best friends and then Rhiannon just disappeared from Lenna’s life. So, when Rhiannon calls Lenna out of the blue she is shocked to learn that Rhiannon has a son and is living in an off the grid community. Rhiannon invites Lenna to visit the community overwhelmed by the secrets in her past and with a baby of her own Lenna takes Rhiannon up on the offer maybe getting away for a few days will help. However soon after arriving and learning the rules of the community Lenna starts feeling uncomfortable. Then a new guest arrives and Lenna’s worst fear is realized her darkest secrets are threatening to come out. Does Rhiannon know and why did she bring Lenna to the community? Lenna realizes that she has to get away and quickly before everything comes tumbling down. I was extremely excited to see a new book from Sara Shepard. I loved Pretty Little Liars, and I am glad to say this did not disappoint. I flew through this one. It was fast paced, and I had no idea who I could trust. It does have a sort of cult vibe to it so if that is something you wish to avoid maybe skip this one. If you are looking for a fast-paced twisty thriller where everyone has something to hide this is perfect for you.”
Slightly Smiling Face“I thought the small print and 371 pages was a lot, but how did Sara Shepard manage to fit ALL those lies, secrets, miscommunications and side stories into a measly 371 pages? I was hooked from first page to last. I think I finished this in 2 days? I couldn't put it down and when I did, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Everyone is guilty. Everyone is a bad person. Everyone should be side eyed. The miscommunication that ends and starts the friendships but then tied them to Halcyon? Immaculate. I knew something was up Gillian, I didn't like her from the start- but I love how she's seen as this victim and "oh poor girl, had these terrible friends" when she wasn't so perfect herself (she's bat sh!t crazy). This was PLL for adults and gave very strong "Dollhouse" vibes from the show. Loved every second of this, but I do wish we got the end of Gillian and who else was on the mountain/cave area. The ending was sad though! Not a very SS ending, I was expecting revenge or bad attitude but understandably realistic. I'll be honest, I was expecting some mental break or for Lenna to be in a psych hospital the whole time and everyone was in on it and just playing along (if you read SS, you'd know this isn't far off from her ya books). I also officially own EVERY Sarah Shepard book besides a few of the obscure side novels that can no longer be found but every print book she has, I own. (I might have a problem). It's a whole bookshelf. 💕 10/10 would read again and the narrators voice was nice, I liked it and felt like I was listening/talking to a friend in real life.”
