Five starred reviews!

From New York Times bestselling author Ashley Woodfolk, Nothing Burns as Bright as You is an impassioned stand-alone tale of queer love, grief, and the complexity of female friendship.

Two girls. One wild and reckless day. Years of tumultuous history unspooling like a thin, fraying string in the hours after they set a fire.

They were best friends. Until they became more. Their affections grew. Until the blurry lines became dangerous.

Over the course of a single day, the depth of their past, the confusion of their present, and the unpredictability of their future is revealed. And the girls will learn that hearts, like flames, aren’t so easily tamed.

It starts with a fire.

How will it end?

  • Sapphic Romance: An all-consuming, earth-shattering love story between two girls who can’t stay away from each other, even when they know they should.
  • Best Friends to Lovers: They were inseparable. Then one kiss changed everything, blurring the lines between friendship and a dangerous, all-consuming obsession.
  • Angsty Romance: Told over the course of a single, reckless day, their tumultuous past unravels in a flood of passion and pain.
  • Toxic Relationship: Fire and water, burning and freezing. Their love is a beautiful, destructive force, and when they set a fire, it’s a metaphor for their entire relationship.
  • Heartbreak: A poignant exploration of what happens when love isn’t enough, written with the raw, lyrical honesty that only a novel in verse can capture.

“Adults writing sex scenes about children is not alright. Really need to change the name and focus of the young "adult" genre. anyways... This FMC is a narcissist that swears she's an empath. An earth sign tyoe that swears she's water. Another masc/nb energy person that tries to collect and use up a beautiful, highly coveted, and misused femme who is in extreme child neglect and loneliness. It grossed me out and gaves flashbacks of all the abusive "friends" and "admirers" that think whatever they want goes bc they hate men and are rainbowed out. The "friends" who keep pushing the lines in consent with everyone, until they finally stumble on the person who struggles with boundaries and abandonment. Then they pour obsession onto the unlucky Muse. The love interest is clearly having ptsd and what seems like manic moments. fmc doesn't care ofc and never tries to help her home life -she loves the love interest being isolated, alone, only hers. FMC, on the other hand, has tons of family that love and support her, all with various beliefs, but she is obsessed with being misunderstood. She's a klepto and depressive. The love interest is a pyro who gets more careless themore shes talked into this relationshipshe feels she has to give herself to. More reckless the more shes ledt abandoned by adults. Immature writing that also reads like an old perv trying to sound young. Just ugh. Keep books like this -and authors like this- away from kids. The gaslighting that this was supposed to be some beacon of amazing or helpful education of young Black bisexuality... fmc has exactly zero character growth and even resorts to dv when love interest has hers!”
