Notes from the Underground

By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Notes from the Underground is a study of a single character, and a revelation of Dostoyevsky's own deepest beliefs. In this work we follow the unnamed narrator of the story, who, disillusioned by the oppression and corruption of the society in which he lives withdraws from that society into the underground.

On the surface this is a story of one man's rant against a corrupt, oppressive society, but this philosophical book also explores the deeper themes of alienation, torment and hatred.

“Pt.2 was better, but pt.1 I don’t think I got anything from. I could not tell you what that was about even if my life did not depend on it. Talk about a delusional thinking man. First the shoulder bump, then the dinner, and then Eliza and thinking of all of the ways to avoid her. Was entertaining to listen to”
“my oh my, Dostoevsky's writing is just plain chef's kiss. even the most vile, hateful character can be so relatable at times. he overthinks too much!! but i love it lol”
“A Lesson in Superiority I believe this is a perfect example of why we shouldn't think of ourselves above (or under) anyone else. When that illusion is shattered, we obsess over it until sick. Then we become too shy to reenter society. At least that's what I got out of this bitter sermon.”
