No Sex Please, I'm Menopausal! by Stevie Turner digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

This darkly humorous fiction book focuses on a couple's mid-life crisis. Lyn Fuller is experiencing menopausal symptoms, and finds that she no longer wants sex. This is unfortunate, as her husband Neil still does. When Neil discards her after 35 years of marriage like an old worn out shoe, Lyn moves to Cornwall to start a new life. However, new friends are hard to find, and she feels lonely. On the spur of the moment she decides to join an online dating site, ‘MatchULike’, just for companionship. Amongst the peculiar people she meets is Peter; shy, and conscious that his ‘gentleman’s’ operation has rendered him an unattractive prospect in the marriage stakes. Lyn makes a friend of Peter, but when Neil gets to hear about the friendship he realises too late that there is more to a relationship than just sex ...

“This was so good, I finished it in one sitting, something I rarely do.

But....

What the f--?! That was a giant f-you to the reader at the end!

After all this incredible, wonderful, joyous self-discovery, and engaging with and discovering her true self, finding spirited, lovable friends and overcoming fears and insecurities, after growing strong and independent, confident and secure, we get an ending that is completely out of character for our beloved heroine when she returns to a character who has an 0% believable growth and is completely unsuited to the heroine other than by his mere familiarity...! UGH. Marrying Peter wouldn't have been right either, but why did she NEED to be married to have her joy and life validated in the first place?

I am so disgusted and disappointed and betrayed. It was an amazing story, so fresh and likeable, so relatable with beautifully smooth language and scene delivery, and then, suddenly, it was trash. Unbelievable.

I can't see Lyn being happy day-to-day with her self-centred, dissimilar ex, let alone viewing a child from his affair as a welcome bonus(!!!). No, it was as if the author reversed all her wonderful spiritual awakening to joy and authentic self, sent her back to repressed, social expectations meeting, suburbian, unthinking, conforming Lyn. Because it's easier, because it's familiar. Because it's socially acceptable. Secure.

UGH! I just wanna scream!

(Okay, Turner, because I loved your creation of older, relatable, real characters, and your ability to bring scenes to life and pace a story so engagingly, I will try another one of your tales. Here's to no more INFURIATING haha-fuck-character-growth endings....)”
