No Is Not Enough
ByPublisher Description
The New York Times–bestselling roadmap to resistance in the Trump era from the internationally acclaimed activist and author of On Fire and The Battle for Paradise.
The election of Donald Trump is a dangerous escalation in a world of cascading crises. Trump’s vision—a radical deregulation of the US economy in the interest of corporations, an all-out war on “radical Islamic terrorism,” and a sweeping aside of climate science to unleash a domestic fossil fuel frenzy—will generate wave after wave of crises and shocks, to the economy, to national security, to the environment.
In No Is Not Enough, Naomi Klein explains that Trump, extreme as he is, is not an aberration but a logical extension of the worst and most dangerous trends of the past half-century. In exposing the malignant forces behind Trump’s rise, she puts forward a bold vision for a mass movement to counter rising militarism, nationalism, and corporatism in the United States and around the world.
Longlisted for the National Book Award
“I hope that Klein’s book is read by more than just her (mostly) leftwing fan base. For whatever you think about her economic arguments, she makes a powerful and an important point: that you cannot understand Trump without looking at how he reflects bigger cultural and social dynamics. And what is perhaps refreshing about No Is Not Enough is that Klein tries to move beyond mere outrage and hand-wringing to offer a practical manifesto for opposition.” —Financial Times
“Brims with ideas rarely heard in the mainstream media. And her fiery, punchy writing style, which is occasionally laced with humor, makes it hard to put down.” —The Georgia Straight

“It took me a while to get through this, not because I didn’t like it or that it was boring, but that given the political hellscape we find ourselves in, the content felt a bit heavy. And that is no fault of the author, it just is what it is.
This book was written based on DT’s first stint in the White House and things have definitely gotten worse (cue audio of Clark W. Griswold Jr: “Worse?! How could they get any worse?! Take a look around you Ellen. We’re at the threshold of hell!”). As a Canadian, I think I am still in shock that the American people elected He Who Shall Not Be Named a second time. Having said that, this book really highlights the shock politics tactics which I found insightful and important to learn about. Klein also gives some encouragement regarding the importance of grassroots movements and the power that cities and states can still have.
It is also becoming glaringly obvious the further we go into 2025, that we really need to take on this mindset. And while I agree with the Leap manifesto at the end, it is certainly a TAALLLLL order to expect all levels of government and people to come together to bring it to fruition… but who knows, maybe the polycrises and volatile markets we are experiencing on a daily basis will be the push needed for a collective shove back to bring about effective change. I sure hope so…”

“This seems like an appropriate listen, even though it is timed with forty-five’s first term. It is fascinating to see what has changed for his policies and what has stayed the same. It is also interesting to know what didn’t happen, even though it was set up to happen and he desired it. The start of this term feels vastly different to me than the past one, but maybe that is because I’m more politically active, or just more aware. I didn’t know about connections between some of his cabinet members and team and large disasters or corporations last time, I feel a little more aware of that this round. I also feel like some of the issues talked about were really big concerns that were based in fear and then never played out, but I feel more fear about some issues in this term than is communicated in the book. I’d be interested to listen to an updated version that analyzes this new term and the continuation of his brand and creating a for-profit government instead of a public service government.”

“I would’ve enjoyed this more if it was written now, and not in Trump’s first term where we still had hope it was all a fluke.”
