Ninefox Gambit RPG

By Yoon Ha Lee
Ninefox Gambit RPG by Yoon Ha Lee digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

NINEFOX GAMBIT RPG is a tabletop roleplaying game of heresy and hard choices set in the tyrannical interstellar empire known as the Hexarchate. YOU belong to one of the Hexarchate's six factions. YOU are entangled with a regime that can change the very laws of physics-at the cost of human sacrifice. Will you... CONFRONT your leaders, at the risk of being labeled a heretic and hunted down? CHANGE the system from within, despite the chance that you'll be crushed by it instead? COLLABORATE to preserve what you can, at the cost of your principles? Assimilation is a fate worse than death. Designed by Yoon Ha Lee and based on his Hugo-nominated Machineries of Empire space opera series. Included are three starter scenarios by Marie Brennan, author of The Memoirs of Lady Trent and, with Alyc C. Helms as M. A. Carrick, the Rook and Rose epic fantasy trilogy.

“3.5 - I really wanted to give this 3.5 stars, but no half stars! =/ To me it is not a 3.5 rounded up to 4 personally. There is a lot of valid critiques/complaints about this book. One wrote word-salad, dragged out/dull and bad science. It is messy/confusing at times and honestly speaking, comparing this to another messy confusing story, Tamsyn Muir's Locked Tomb series, I prefer the Necromancers in space. I even think the first Malazan book is an easier read to follow than this is at times. (I need to continue that series instead! ^^;) For that reason, I went with the same strategy I have for Malazan and Locked Tomb, read and go with the flow first, then look back at things. That said this story to me personally is just middle in the road space-opera. I do not hate it, but I am not super hyped for the book either even if I did somewhat enjoy reading the book. If I can borrow the second book I will try it. But since this is in the middle of the road for me, I do not plan to waste my limited economical resources on a physical copy on something I know I will not keep and re-read, nor will I use precious audible credits on book 2. As a side note, I did actually enjoy Phoenix Extravagant by YHL, so I will be open to the author in the future. But this one was just right in the middle. Not bad but not really good either...”
