Never Tell
ByPublisher Description
#1 New York Times bestseller Lisa Gardner returns with an unpredictable thriller that puts fan favorites D.D. Warren and Flora Dane on a shocking new case that begins with a vicious murder and gets darker from there.
A man is dead, shot three times in his home office. But his computer has been shot twelve times, and when the cops arrive, his pregnant wife is holding the gun.
D.D. Warren arrives on the scene and recognizes the woman--Evie Carter--from a case many years back. Evie's father was killed in a shooting that was ruled an accident. But for D.D., two coincidental murders is too many.
Flora Dane sees the murder of Conrad Carter on the TV news and immediately knows his face. She remembers a night when she was still a victim--a hostage--and her captor knew this man. Overcome with guilt that she never tracked him down, Flora is now determined to learn the truth of Conrad's murder.
But D.D. and Flora are about to discover that in this case the truth is a devilishly elusive thing. As layer by layer they peel away the half-truths and outright lies, they wonder: How many secrets can one family have?

“Dull. I should just stop continuing to read books that don’t hook me.
This one took forever and was not twisty or suspenseful at all.”
“Never Tell by Lisa Gardner opens with a scene that basically says, “welcome, please leave your trust at the door.” A woman shoots her husband, calmly calls the police, and then just sits there like she has already accepted her fate. Simple case, right? Obviously not. This is Lisa Gardner, not a straight line. From page one you know everyone is hiding something and honesty has taken early retirement.
The middle of the book is where things go full “kya chal raha hai.” Enter Detective D.D. Warren, who is trying to untangle a case where every answer leads to five new questions. Then comes Flora Dane, survivor, badass, and walking reminder that trauma does not leave quietly. Together they dig into a web of past abuse, buried secrets, and relationships that look normal from outside but are anything but. Every character feels suspicious, every motive feels layered, and you keep flipping pages like you are solving it yourself. Spoiler: you are not.
Gardner plays that dangerous game where she gives you just enough information to feel smart and then pulls the rug like “beta relax.” The tension keeps building, the timelines shift, and suddenly what looked like a clear crime becomes a full psychological puzzle. Matlab murder mystery kam, emotional investigation zyada. And honestly, everyone in this book needs therapy but instead they chose secrets.
By the end, everything comes together in a way that makes you pause and rethink everything you just read. The truth lands hard, messy, and very satisfying. It is one of those endings where you are impressed but also slightly annoyed that you did not see it coming.
Final verdict: sharp, gripping, and mentally exhausting in the best way. Read it if you enjoy thrillers where nobody is innocent, everyone has baggage, and the truth is always more complicated than it looks. Just remember, in this story, “never tell” is not advice, it is a lifestyle.”
