Publisher Description

A woman trapped on a mountain attempts to survive more than one kind of monster, in a dread-inducing horror novel from the national bestselling author Christina Henry.

Mattie can't remember a time before she and William lived alone on a mountain together. She must never make him upset. But when Mattie discovers the mutilated body of a fox in the woods, she realizes that they’re not alone after all.

There’s something in the woods that wasn’t there before, something that makes strange cries in the night, something with sharp teeth and claws.

When three strangers appear on the mountaintop looking for the creature in the woods, Mattie knows their presence will anger William. Terrible things happen when William is angry.

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“It’s a horror cliche, I know, but the true evil in this book wasn’t the monster, but a human evil. Okay, I mean, the monster wasn’t great either - but what was truly bone chilling here, what really gets under your skin, is the horrible wickedness inflected on the main character by… well, a human. Avoiding spoilers here. There was some great creature horror, too, and more than a fair amount of gore, but that human evil… man, that shit was fucked. All of that is my way of saying that I loved this book. It was creepy and atmospheric and after setting its scene it ramped up to 100 mph in no time and never let off the gas. I couldn’t stop reading, needed to know what happened next. The characters were phenomenal, the writing was simple but good, the location worked so well… Yeah, this was pretty damn good.”

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“This story took me on an insane ride! Completely took my breath away, left chills, and had great character growth. Not only are we given a real monstrous man, we are even given a real, full fledge creature, two terrifying individuals who you want to run away from. Need a story to read that will keep you hooked: This is it.”
